10. Where do I get honor cords?
Answer: There are two types of honor cords.
• The first is an honor society cord that you can receive through your honor society if you belong to one. The Dean’s office does not supply honor society cords.
• The second is an academic achievement honor cord that you receive if your GPA meets the criteria for Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude. This honor cord is available at the Dean’s office, 205 OSH, between April 16th and April 30th.
11. Does Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Cum Laude appear on my diploma?
Answer: Yes, if you receive that distinction, it will appear on your diploma. For more details about Cum Laude status, visit the registrar's graduation page.
12. Do I receive any special honor for graduating Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude?
Answer: In addition to receiving an academic achievement honor cord, the Convocation program will have stars by those students who are candidates for these honors. A final determination as to whether or not a student receives an academic honor will be made when their final grades are recorded. The GPA requirements for these honors change every year as they are based on a student’s ranking within their graduating class based on a five-year average of graduating students within a particular college. A student who “walks” in the spring, but does not officially graduate until the summer will be ranked according to the next year’s requirements. The Graduation Office will mail diplomas and ribbons separately, but within a few weeks of each other, in September.
